Demonstrating the power of such tools as Basecamp and Typeform, the SMARTACUS Creative Group is engaging the community in new forms of collaborative journalism focused on Upstate New York’s creative economy.

Initially proposed as the “creative portal” called for by the Upstate Alliance for the Creative Economy in its landmark report, Leveraging Regional Assets for a Vibrant Future, SMARTACUS has emerged as a regional brand for creativity, innovation, and collaboration.

Now we’re heading into Round 2.

PREPARING STUDENTS FOR AN INTERACTIVE WORLD:
THE PRACTICUM IN COLLABORATIVE MEDIA
Round 2

We’ll embark in September on Round 2 of our Practicum in Collaborative Media, connecting in our Maker Space another 25 juniors and seniors in Jill Cowburn’s Saratoga Springs High School journalism class with 25 leaders, innovators and artists in Upstate New York’s creative economy. Upon “drafting” their Interview Subjects, students will interview them in the Maker Space and “face-to-face” in-person, by Zoom, or by phone. Our student writers will complete the assignment by writing an 800-to-1200 word profile of the subject to be published in our Legacies blog and on the Saratoga Today Lifestyles page.

VISIONING SARATOGA: Perspectives on What’s Coming

This new series focuses on Saratoga institutions that are in the process of change, charting a course toward becoming something new. Prospective Interview Subjects are being identified and contacted now, as are sources of student writers.
